Boy dies, brother injured in Gokalpuri house fire

A four-year-old boy died and his brother was injured in a Delhi fire while their parents were away. The cause is under investigation.

A four-year-old boy died, and his five-year-old brother was injured in a fire that broke out in a room on the second floor of a building near Kardam Dharamshala in northeast Delhi’s Gokalpuri on Saturday evening, a police officer said.

Deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Ashish Mishra said an alert was received at the Gokalpuri police station about a fire at a house near Kardam Dharamshala. Upon reaching the spot, police personnel learnt that two children were alone in the room while their parents were out for work.

“Around 3:15 pm, the children’s grandmother, who lives in a separate room, noticed smoke coming out from the room and found both children injured. They were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital by other family members, where one was declared brought dead,” the DCP said.

The forensic team inspected the scene, and the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. Proceedings have been initiated under Section 194 (unnatural deaths) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the officer said.
