K Kavitha questioned by CBI for over 7 hours in Delhi excise policy case
Party leaders said Kavitha, who was the former Member of Parliament from Nizamabad, requested BRS cadre and her supporters to not gather at her residence
Hyderabad A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials interrogated Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and Bharati Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha in Hyderabad on Sunday about her purported involvement in alleged irregularities pertaining to Delhi’s 2021-22 excise policy.

The officials, who arrived at Kavitha’s residence at 11am, left at 6.30pm. The Hyderabad police beefed up security near her residence.

Party leaders said Kavitha, who was the former Member of Parliament from Nizamabad, requested BRS cadre and her supporters to not gather at her residence. As stated earlier when she was served notice, Kavitha reiterated that she will be cooperating with the central agency, said party officials.
Posters in support of Kavitha were put up near her house by her supporters and party workers. One of the posters read ‘Daughter of Fighter Will Never Fear. #We Are With Kavithakka’.

CBI had informed Kavitha last week that a team from the investigating agency would visit her residence in the city on December 11 for examination.
On November 30, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) named Kavitha, the BRS Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Nizamabad, in a remand report submitted to a Delhi court, following the arrest of Amit Arora, one of the accused in the excise policy case.
ED claimed Kavitha was a key member of the “South Group”, which allegedly paid at least ₹100 crore in kickbacks to leaders of Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) through another arrested businessman, Vijay Nair.
CBI issued the notice to Kavitha under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which says that the investigating officer can summon any person as witness in a particular case.
