Gurugram: Waterlogging reported from key areas, no major traffic congestion

Parts of Gurugram on Thursday morning witnessed waterlogging after heavy rainfall lashed the city. The volume of traffic was less on roads due to a holiday on occasion of Eid and no major congestion was reported, said officials.

Water logging was reported from Hero Honda Chowk, Narsinpur, Sector 10 A, Sheetla Colony, Sector 22, 23, Vatika Chowk, and Subhash Chowk.

The teams of traffic police, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) were deployed on the spots and used water pumps to ensure there is no congestion on National Highway-48 and internal roads.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Wednesday had called for deployment of additional resources and better coordination among different agencies to prevent waterlogging on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and further stretches of NH-48 passing through the district.

PC Meena, CEO GMDA and commissioner MCG, said that the situation was better on Thursday as compared to other days as the teams were better prepared.

“Our teams are present on all the major spots and are using water pumps where required to decongest the stretches. Our prime focus was to ensure no congestion is reported from the expressway and major intersections. Extra pumps have been sent to all waterlogging spots along with the technical team, “he said.

Meena said their teams have checked all underpasses and subways along with other major areas and are on the spot till the water is not pumped out.

“We are taking updates every 15 minutes from all the sites so that if any equipment or technical support required, concerned team and officials can be sent,” he said.

A senior traffic police officer said that no major bottleneck was reported from any of the areas due to less volume of commuters.

“Our teams are on the spot and managing traffic to ensure there is no congestion of the key stretches and internal roads. Due to Eid holiday, most of the companies were closed resulting in low vehicular traffic movement,” Suresh Kumar, assistant commissioner of police (traffic).
