Posing as IT officers, 5 men allegedly loot ₹50 lakh cash from trader in Jaipur

Posing as Income Tax (IT) officers, the accused entered the trader, Satyanarayan Tambi’s residence on Wednesday evening

Five unidentified armed persons allegedly robbed a trader of ₹50lakh cash and 1.5kg gold by holding them captive at their home on gunpoint in Nagtalai area of Jaipur, police said on Thursday.

Posing as Income Tax (IT) officers, the accused entered the trader, Satyanarayan Tambi’s residence on Wednesday evening.

The dacoits took Tambi’s grandson at gunpoint so that they could know where the cash and jewellery was kept.

“Everyone was taken into a room tied and taped. We were asked to sit facing the wall. When I asked them to show their identity card, they asked us all to sit. All of our phones were taken by them,” said the trader’s daughter-in-law.

Tambi’s mother Mohi Devi (90), wife Santosh, son Jeetendra, two daughters-in-law Ritu, Priyanka and three children Shreyansh, Keshav, Samarth were in the house.

Meanwhile, when the trader’s son Hemraj reached home, the accused took him hostage too.

The miscreants fled after robbing them. The family was rescued by the neighbours who heard their cries for help.

“We have captured the CCTV camera footage of nearby locations and the accused are being traced. The accused had done recce of the trader before executing the plan. According to the FIR, ₹50 lakh cash and gold were looted by the accused,” said Mukesh Kumar Khardia, SHO Galta Gate police station.

Police said the accused took away the DVR of the CCTV camera installed at the trader’s residence.

The forensic team collected evidence from the spot late on Wednesday night.
