Karni Sena people resort to vandalism outside SP MP’s Agra residence
The attackers could not enter the house but damaged chairs outside the ground floor apartment and cars parked nearby
AGRA Karni Sena people on Wednesday resorted to vandalism outside the residence of Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ramjilal Suman in Agra in protest against his last week’s remark cited as an insult to medieval ruler Rana Sanga.

The attackers could not enter the house but damaged chairs outside the ground floor apartment and cars parked nearby. Several police personnel, including the in-charge of the Hariparvat police station, were injured while trying to stop the activists, according to the police. Senior police officers are in the process of ascertaining the number of police personnel injured in the incident.
The SP MP was not in the house when the attack took place but later his son Ranjit Suman came out to protest against the incident.
A tehrir (written complaint) has been received from Ranjit Suman, the son of Samajwadi Party MP Ramjilal Suman, with regard to Wednesday’s violence, said Akshay M, the officer in charge of Hariparvat police station.
“Police are watching videos to identify those involved in the case. Suitable legal action shall follow,” the police officer said.
He was among the police personnel injured in the attack by Karni Sena people.
Deputy commissioner of police (City) Sonam Kumar said a case is being registered and those involved are being identified.
“About 50 to 60 cops were present when the attack took place. The attackers could not enter house. They were chased away once they resorted to violence,” said the DCP.
Ramjilal Suman had made the controversial remark in the Rajya Sabha on Friday (March 21) and declined to withdraw it. However, he later said he had no intention to hurt sentiments of any caste or community.
Rana Sangram Singh, more popular as Rana Sanga, was the ruler of Mewar in present-day Rajasthan during the 16th century.
Seated on a bulldozer, waving flags and shouting slogans against the SP MP, Karni Sena people began moving from Etmadpur area on the outskirts of Agra towards Ramjilal Suman’s ground floor apartment at HIG Flats in Sanjay Place adjoining MG Road early on Wednesday.
The incident took place on a day on which chief minister Yogi Adityanath was in Agra for a visit to the Dariyanath temple.
Though the police stopped the Karni Sena bulldozer before it reached the HIG flats, the attackers entered the locality and resorted to vandalism, smashing plastic chairs and car windows.
Police rushed to place barricades and later had to resort to a lathi-charge to disperse the activists.
As things calmed down, Samajwadi Party activists gathered at the apartment and condemned the vandalism.
Court to hear plea against Akhilesh, SP MP on April 10
The court of the civil judge (senior division) in Agra will hear a petition filed against Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Rajya Sabha member Ramjilal Suman on April 10 on the issue of maintainability in connection with a case filed over the recent remark by Suman on Rana Sanga of Mewar.
A lawyer, Ajay Pratap Singh, filed the ‘declaratory’ suit on Monday (March 24). Singh claimed to be the president of the Yogeshwar Sri Krishna Sanskretik Anusandhan Sansthan Trust, Arya Sanskriti Sarankshak Trust and Kshatriya Shaktipeeth Vikas Trust in Agra.
Agra police deny security lapse, say major incident averted
The Agra police have denied a security lapse at Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha member Ramjilal Suman’s residence where Karni Sena people resorted to vandalism. The ‘alert’ police averted a major incident, officials said.
Additional commissioner of police Sanjeev Tyagi stated that those from the Karni Sena moving towards the house of Samajwadi Party MP were stopped at different places and a few were taken into custody but a few others managed to reach the gate of the MP’s residence while concealing their identity.
“A group of those from Karni Sena had come to lodge their protest at the house of Samajwadi Party MP Ramjilal Suman on Wednesday. They were agitated against statement made by SP MP,” Tyagi said.
“Agra police had placed barricades at different locations and had plans to stop those from the Karni Sena at these points. We stopped them at different locations and a few were taken into custody too. A few managed to reach near the MP’s apartment on the ground floor from different access points while changing their identity,” Tyagi said.
“Stones were pelted on the house of the MP on Wednesday afternoon and a ruckus was created, damaging goods. Police used minimum force to stop those on the rampage and nabbed a few. Legal compliance is being undertaken,” Tyagi said.
“We are finalising a list of those nabbed from different locations and the cops injured in the attack,” the ACP said and claimed that the alert police prevented a big incident.
