The accused, Rahul Maurya, 27, an electrician, was arrested and an FIR under IPC sections 364 (forcibly carries or entices B away from home), 302 (murder), and 201 (giving false information to screen offender) had been lodged against him at the Mahanagar police station on the complaint of the woman’s kin, stated a press note by the Lucknow Police.

“Komal Kashyap, 21, was killed on her wedding day. The accused, Rahul Maurya, fled from the spot after the incident. He is a resident of Amethi and was living in Sector J, Jankipuram, in Lucknow,” said Aparna Rajat Kaushik, DCP (central).

According to Lucknow Police, Komal left her house on May 4 morning, saying she was going to a beauty parlour. Her family began searching for her after she did not return even after several hours. They filed a missing person report at the Mahanagar police station.

“With the help of technical and manual inputs, surveillance and CCTV footage, it was found that the last call on Komal’s number was made by her fiancé Rahul Kashyap. Rahul was interrogated thoroughly. Initially, he tried to mislead the police, but later confessed to his crime, and the body was found in Kukrail jungle,” said the DCP.

“The accused also confessed that he did not want to marry Komal since the beginning and he had said yes only for the sake of the girl. Hence, he decided to eliminate her on the wedding day. Rahul called Komal and asked her to meet him at Kukrail, where after a possible argument, he killed her and fled,” she added.

“A missing complaint regarding Komal was registered at the Mahanagar police station, but no immediate action was taken,” alleged the girl’s father, Sanjay Kashyap, a balloon seller. According to him, Rahul’s family had also refused for the wedding.
