Lucknow: A day after chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced plans to invite investment in UP during the Global Investor Summit, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati said on Wednesday that continuous efforts of the government should not be limited only to the acquisition of agricultural land and political and electoral interests.

Mayawati said whatever special work was done under the BSP government for the overall progress, development and livelihood of the people of UP as well as for their security and self-respect, was done on its own. (Pic for representation)

In a series of tweets, the BSP chief said efforts for domestic and foreign capital investment in UP were necessary, but should not be limited only to the acquisition of agricultural land and political and electoral interests. People should see the same speedy progress under a double engine government in a very poor and backward state like UP, she said.

Addressing a curtain – raiser event of the Global Investors Summit (GIS) at Delhi on Tuesday, Yogi Adityanath had said the UP government would organize roadshows in 18 countries to attract investors ahead of the GIS to be held in Lucknow from February 10 to 12 next year.

Mayawati said whatever special work was done under the BSP government for the overall progress, development and livelihood of the people of UP as well as for their security and self-respect, was done on its own. Ganga Expressway and Jewar Airport would have been built along with Yamuna Expressway if the Congress government at the Centre had cooperated a little, she said.

Hitting out at the rival BJP and SP, Mayawati said under the BSP government, people saw the poor people blessed with the allotment of new pucca houses and free land to lakhs of families. Employment and basic facilities were provided to the people. But under the SP and now under the BJP governments, the same progress had not taken place, she said.
