From US to Papua New Guinea, quest for knowledge brings them to LU

Applicant numbers rise, as do the number of countries these students come from: 52 last year and 76 this year

The University of Lucknow, synonymous with student unrest till a decade back, is fast refurbishing its image. If this year’s number of applications of foreign students is anything to go by then things are looking rosy for the century-old university.

Prior to the pandemic (session 2019-20), the university had received only 53 applications from foreign students. This year, the university has received applications from 1,465 foreign students from 76 countries against last year’s 826 forms from 52 countries.

After the pandemic, the scenario changed. Students have come forward from countries like the USA, Ukraine, Mexico, Bhutan, Palestine, Togo, Albania, Somalia, Senegal, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Somalia, Ivory Coast, Turkmenistan, Jordon, Liberia, Papua New Guinea and others to study at LU.

With prospects of a brighter future, foreign students have started coming to Lucknow University to pursue various courses ranging from undergraduate to PhD.

Legiena Nangolo, who came from Namibia to study B Sc, said, “For the short time that I have been here, I love India and I love the way they welcomed us and I’m hoping for the best throughout my studies. Heard a lot about this university and decided to study here.”

Fanuel Ndashaaloko, also from Namibia, who has enrolled in B Com, said, “There is no other feeling than studying in the country of my dreams, India. I honestly felt more positive to be admitted to Lucknow University. The beautiful university is full of kind people. I can’t wait to begin my first year. I deeply appreciate the professor who makes it possible for my dream.”

Ritika Chaurasiya from Birgunj, Nepal, is here to pursue MBA from LU. “MBA is a valued course at LU and it will help shape my career,” said Ritika, who graduated from Birganj, Nepal. She loved the clean green campus.

Petrus Petrus, from Namibia, who enrolled in B Com, said, “As an international student, the University of Lucknow gave me a great opportunity, with a strong commitment to academic excellence, and a warm welcome from local students. Good communication all over. I expect to be equipped with skills and expertise from the university. I feel honoured to pursue my future career at this top institution.”

Andualem Gezahegn, who came from Ethiopia, said, “I have got admission in PhD in management at University of Lucknow under ICCR African scholarship scheme. The good thing here is people are highly friendly and supportive. I am happy to be a member of Lucknow University hoping that I will have a lovely academic time.”

Naemi Nghipandwa of Namibia, enrolled in the B Sc course, said that foreign students from the country are happy to be here at LU. Amalia Ekandjo from Namibia) enrolled in B Com said, “It’s a pleasure to be here in Lucknow University. I’m hoping for the best in my studies.”

Amena - Omwene V Petrus from Namibia who wants to pursue M Ed said, “I have come from a country on the southwestern coast of Africa (Namibia). India is an absolutely beautiful country with amazing, welcoming, and loving people. I have made friends with people from all walks of life and am glad they are kind and that made me love the city even more. Only the weather is so hot and humid. I can’t wait to begin classes.”

The diverse group of students are going through the admission process which will continue until the end of this month.
