UP CM Yogi launches “School Chalo Abhiyan”
Take every child to school, provide them all facilities, CM asks officials, people’s reps in Shravasti
With a view to ensuring100 per cent enrolment in primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh, chief minister Yogi Adityanath launched the “School Chalo Abhiyan” from Jaichandpur Katghara upper primary school in Shravasti district on Monday. Shravasti district has the lowest literacy rate in the state.

This drive to improve primary education in the state will last until April 30. It will be run especially in low literacy districts. A target has been set to connect two crore children with the drive.
On the occasion, Yogi asked all teachers, principals and also people’s representatives to associate themselves with the drive during which it should be found out if any child was deprived of school education. “Take every child to school, register them, provide them with facilities like free uniform, books, bags, shoes, socks and sweater etc,” the CM said.
“We have to give special emphasis to basic education. The campaign is being launched after two years due to the Covid pandemic. It may happen that the children, who did not go to school, might be feeling lazy to return. But we have to ensure that no child is left out and all should be admitted to schools,” he added.
Yogi also gave education kits to five newly enrolled students containing school bags, shoes and socks, a football, and books. Three physically challenged students were given hearing aid and Braille kit to connect them with the mainstream education. With the aim of encouraging teachers, the CM awarded LED TV screens to UPS Siswa school teacher Atiya Parveen and Ankit Kumar Srivastava of Chahlawa school for improving enrolment in their schools.
“It is crucial that every week there should be a review of how many children are associated with this scheme to strengthen children’s education in UP. Efforts should be made to connect maximum number of class children from Class 1 to Class 8 with the drive,” Yogi said.
“At the same time, there is a need to prepare an action plan to increase the facility of smart classes in schools so that every child can be provided education,” he added. The chief minister instructed that primary schools in the state should be equipped with better facilities such as smart classes, drinking water, midday meals, good flooring, toilets, solar panels, playgrounds, refresher courses for teachers etc.
In 2017, 1.34 crore students were enrolled in basic education schools and the situation was one of mismanagement and anarchy, he said. “There was no arrangement for drinking water, midday meals, toilets. However, in three years (till 2019), the number of students in schools increased to 1.80 crore and free books, two uniform sets, shoes, socks and sweater were provided to students due to the efforts of the state government,” Yogi said.
CM also asked the officers to run a time-bound campaign for the posting of teachers in every school of the basic education council. “The pandemic affected all aspects of life but school education was impacted the most. Despite this, when the society stands up and fights this battle, we see the result. Today, we are once again joining the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ after two years to give further momentum to the cause of education,” said CM.
“We spent the last two years battling the Covid— the biggest crisis of the century. Under the leadership of PM Modi, every effort was made to save the lives of the people,” he added. After launching the drive, Yogi distributed meal to the students. Basic education minister Sandeep Singh, principal secretary basic education, UP, Deepak Kumar, Shravasti district magistrate Neha Prakash and basic shiksha adhikari Prabhu Ram were also present at the occasion.
