A 66-year-old woman died after a speeding cab crashed in Borivali. The driver fled, prompting police to investigate for negligent driving.
MUMBAI: A senior citizen from Vasai, who was travelling to Wadala, died after her cab crashed into the divider on Western Express Highway in Borivali on Monday evening. The driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle, the police said.

According to the police, Jesintha D’Souza, a 66-year-old homemaker from Vasai, booked a cab to Wadala to visit her son. When the cab reached Magathane in Borivali, it collided with a road divider at high speed, causing severe injuries to her head. The driver was reportedly speeding and lost control of the vehicle. A passerby alerted her son, Edward D’Souza, and rushed her to Shri Sai Hospital in Kandivali. She was in an unconscious state and was admitted to the ICU, where she died while undergoing treatment.
Subsequently, based on her son’s complaint, the police registered a case with the Kasturba Marg police against the cab driver for rash and negligent driving.
“The driver fled the scene after the incident and is absconding. He also switched off his mobile phone. We are getting in touch with the company that provided the cab service to get his details,” said a police officer.
