Mumbai Traffic Police announce peak-hour ban on heavy vehicles from Feb 1

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Traffic Police on Friday announced a citywide ban on heavy vehicle entry during peak hours, effective February 1, to alleviate chronic traffic congestion and improve road safety.

Under the new notification, heavy vehicles will be prohibited from operating on city roads between 8 am and 11 pm and between 5 pm and 9 pm. Officials said the ban was required due to a sharp rise in vehicle density and ongoing infrastructure projects in the city, which have led to frequent gridlocks.

The traffic police have also introduced a three-month one-way trial at Shrikrishna Nagar in Dahisar to address localised bottlenecks.

The new system applies to Cross Road No. 2, a narrow residential stretch that frequently experiences jams due to high footfall from devotees visiting the Shri Swami Samarth Math.

According to the new traffic flow, vehicles may move only from Yashika Apartment toward Shri Swami Samarth Math.

Vehicle movement from Shri Swami Samarth Math toward Yashika Apartment is now completely restricted, and motorists can use Shantivan Road and Shrikrishna Nagar Cross Road No. 3.
