The motor transport division of the police department has recently written to the state home department in this regard.
“The proposal is pending with the home department at Mantralaya. We have demanded 10 four-by-four bullet proof vehicles and 20 four-by-two vehicles for escorting VVIPs,” additional commissioner of police Nishikant More said.
Home department officials said the proposal is under consideration and is likely to be cleared soon.
Currently, the division has only four Fortuner, and one each is deployed for the security of the Governor, the chief minister, and the deputy chief minister. The fourth vehicle is kept on standby at Nagpur.
Police officials said they had old SUVs which could not keep pace with the high-end vehicles used by VVIPs for their personal use. “Currently, the division has white and black Scorpio which are 10 years old,” More added.
