20-year-old worker killed after hydraulic parking pallet crashes

Gufran Khan, a 20-year-old worker, was crushed to death by a hydraulic car parking lift system in Mumbai. A case has been filed against the firm owner and site supervisor for negligence.

MUMBAI: A worker was crushed to death after a pallet of a hydraulic car parking lift system fell on him in Ghatkopar East on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Gufran Khan, 20, a resident of Baiganwadi in Govandi. After completing SSC, Khan had started working as a helper for Pari Fabrication to financially support his family.

A case has been registered against the firm owner Imran Ahmed Khan and site supervisor Amol Kamble for not providing necessary safety for the workers.

Khan’s father, an autorickshaw driver, said his son went to work as usual around 9am on Tuesday. “Around 4pm, my sister, Shakila Bano, received a call that Khan had suffered injury during his work and was admitted to Rajawadi Hospital.

“Khan was doing fabrication work on the hydraulic car parking at building number 141 near Vallabh Park in Pant Nagar. The pallet fell on him when he was standing there. The supervisor Amol Kamble and Numan Ali rushed Khan to the hospital where he died during treatment, a police officer said.

Pari fabrication’s owner has taken a contract from A J Elevators to build a hydraulic car parking lift in the building and the work was going on for the past two months. Amol Kamble was employed as site supervisor in AJ Elevator company.

The case has been registered against firm owner Imran Ahmed Khan and site supervisor Amol Kamble, 30, under charges of 304 (A) (for causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code based on the statement given by Khan’s father, assistant police inspector Sachin Patil said.

“We are recording the statement of the people present on the site,” Patil said.
