CM launches, lays foundation stones of infra projects worth ₹488 cr in Agra, says will develop Taj city as ‘IT & electronics’ hub
The CM was addressing the Prabuddhajan Sammelan -- an event being held across the state in the wake of the upcoming civic elections.
AGRA: Attracting investments to develop Agra as the hub for IT and electronics is a priority for the state government, said chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday. He added that the move will create jobs for the youth in Agra, which comes under the Taj Trapezium Zone (an area earmarked to protect the iconic monument from pollution).
“As per the Supreme Court order, certain restrictions have been imposed in Agra, which in now a part of the Taj Trapezium Zone. Therefore, our government has decided to develop Agra as IT and electronics hub. This wouldn’t violate restrictions but create several job opportunities and help Agra enter a new phase of development,” said CM Yogi.
The CM was addressing the Prabuddhajan Sammelan -- an event being held across the state in the wake of the upcoming civic elections. During his Agra visit on Monday, he also laid foundation stones and inaugurated 88 infrastructure projects worth around ₹488 crore. These projects are aimed at upgrading and developing civic amenities in the Taj city.
In his address, CM Yogi said, “The need of the hour is for Uttar Pradesh to emerge as the growth engine of the country’s economy. He further said that Agra was listed among the dirtiest cities before 2017 but the perception has changed in the last five years.” He added, “People are witnessing the change in Agra. It is now establishing a new paradigm under the Smart City Mission. The city has modern public transportation facilities, and metro construction is underway. Metro rail facilities will be available by next year in Agra.”
Attacking previous governments, the CM said, “Earlier, the infrastructural work carried out in Agra had a different intention behind it. A Mughal museum was being built in the city. It was our government which realised that Agra needs Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and not Mughals. We dedicated the museum in Agra to great Maratha king.”
The CM also hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech saying, “Under the leadership of PM Modi, we have come out of the era of politics of mistrust that existed before 2014. Today, India has become the fifth largest economy surpassing the United Kingdom which ruled us for over 200 years.”
He also assured people that the double engine government -- at the Centre and the state -- is committed to development and public welfare. “Earlier, mafias would trouble the poor and traders. Today, our police have made their lives miserable. The mafias are wandering through the streets with placards hanging around their necks pleading for their lives and stating that they are willing to sell veggies from a cart,” said the CM.
He also highlighted welfare works like construction of houses for the poor and India’s improved rank in the Ease of Doing business index. CM Yogi also pointed out that the U.P. Global Investors’ Summit will be held in February next year and urged everyone to become a part of it.
