Drug bust: Mizoram police, Assam Rifles seize methamphetamine tablets worth ₹23 crore

The Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police on Thursday seized 7.907kg of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹23.72 crore and impounded a vehicle near Hmunhmeltha Road in Champhai district, officials said.

According to a statement by the Assam Rifles, the seized contraband and the impounded vehicle were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai district.

“During the operation, the operatives from the two agencies found an abandoned vehicle at the location. On searching the vehicle, they recovered 7.907kg of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹23.72 crore. The vehicle was also seized,” the Assam Rifles said in its statement.

The Assam Rifles, entrusted with guarding the 510-kilometre-long Indo-Myanmar international border in Mizoram, have been actively working to secure the porous boundary, which has increasingly become a major transit point for drug trafficking and illegal trade.
