NEW DELHI: A fire broke out in a garbage dump near the Red Fort parking on Sunday afternoon, officials said, adding that no injuries were reported in the incident.

Officials said the fire department was informed about the fire at 3:10pm and 10 fire tenders were sent to the scene. “A garbage dump near the parking lot caught fire. It was brought under control within an hour and was doused by 4:30 pm,” an official said.
In another incident, a fire broke out at a gym accessories manufacturing unit in Mayapuri on Sunday, officials said.
An official said a call regarding the blaze was received at 12:09pm, and 10 fire tenders were deployed. The fire was doused by 5:30pm, and no injuries were reported, the official said.
Delhi Fire Services data shows a sharp rise in daily fire-related emergency calls in May, with the number nearly doubling in the second half of the month as the temperature surged.
Data accessed by HT showed the fire department received 66 fire calls on May 1, while the number climbed to 140 by May 18 — an increase of over 112% in 18 days.
