Bihar CM Nitish Kumar tests positive for Covid-19 again, goes in isolation

This is Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s second bout with the Covid-19 infection this year. He tested positive earlier in January this year

PATNA: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has tested positive for coronavirus, his second bout with the illness this year, the chief minister’s office said on Tuesday.

Kumar’s office said the chief minister, who missed President Droupadi Murmu’s oath event in Delhi on Monday, had been unwell for the last two-three days. “He got himself tested on Monday and he was found to be Covid positive.

The chief minister is in isolation at home and has been advised to rest.

“The chief minister has appealed to all those who came in his contact during past two-three days to get themselves tested,” the statement added.

Kumar last tested Covid-19 positive in January this year.

Over the last few weeks, Bihar is reporting 300-400 new cases of coronavirus, most of them from state capital Patna.

On July 24, 94 new cases were reported from Patna out of the 355 in the state. Among the other districts which reported fresh cases were Saharsa (57), Bhagalpur (27), Araria (21), Supaul (20) and Gaya (15).
