Police sought five days’ custody to establish the motive, ascertain whether Chavan acted alone and probe any previous dispute with Bapat. They also told the court that Chavan had allegedly circulated an objectionable video about Bapat and that six criminal cases were registered against him.
Bapat was allegedly slapped on Thursday while speaking to reporters on Tilak Road. The defence opposed police custody, saying Chavan had no animosity towards Bapat. The court granted one-day custody.
