BCCI Review Meeting: The biggest update is that chief Ajit Agarkar didn't even attend the meeting online. He has cited personal commitments. He was out of station, to boot. Earlier it was reported he was going to be present virtually. Also there is no official press conference after the meeting. Although BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia discussed quite a few things with the reporters present there. He praised Rohit Sharma to begin with. Also, he revealed that Agarkar's tenure wasn't discussed in the meeting. Besides, he discussed injuries and how the board was planning to deal with them....Read More
The BCCI review meeting is underway in Mumbai, with head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman in attendance. The meeting comes at an important time for Indian cricket, with the team preparing for the all-format tour of New Zealand later this year and next year’s ODI World Cup.
The disappointing UK tour is expected to be discussed, but the focus will also be on the bigger picture. The fitness of key players, particularly Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, is likely to be a major talking point, with the selectors seeking clarity on their return timelines. Rohit Sharma’s future in ODIs could also come up as India begins planning for the World Cup. The meeting is also expected to address the coordination between the selectors, coaching staff and the COE.
BCCI Meeting: Saikia's full quote on Rohit Sharma
BCCI Meeting: “He is playing superbly in all matches. What more do you want? In the last match, he scored 130-140 runs. So why is there speculation? I do not want to give fodder to the speculators.”
With that we end our blog.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Saikia continues
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: “I would like to reiterate that the vacant position of the head of sports science at the CoE is not a deterrent to our activities. That post is required, but it is a very high-level post. For that, proper qualified persons are needed. We have about 16 persons in place to maintain the fitness and rehab facilities, but to supervise that, one important person is required. We are trying to find that person.”
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Saikia on injuries
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: The BCCI secretary says, “Players are having injuries because they have to play a lot of matches. If you look at their schedule, in England, we had a 15-player team that went for the ODIs, and out of that, 3 or 4 players got injured. We have to take into consideration that they have played two months of IPL prior to that. So all this takes a toll on the health of the players. To avoid those kinds of situations under the present FTPs, we are trying to find some ways out. We have a protocol in place for how a player can come back to international matches after injury. We are taking feedback from the captains and head coach to chalk up a proper strategy to avoid these unwanted situations. In the next FTP, we will ensure proper rest for the players, acclimatisation, or some practice matches before any major series in SENA countries.”
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Saikia comes out at last
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: And praises Rohit Sharma. Says the India batter is batting beautifully. That's good news for Rohit and his fans. Saikia also said there would be no director of cricket. He added chief selector Ajit Agarkar's tenure wasn't discussed in the meeting. Agarkar was out of station and that's why he couldn't make it.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: No press conference
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: So, there is going to be no press conference. The BCCI is keeping things to itself, it appears. Anyway, stay tuned. If there is anything out of the ordinary, we will report it for sure.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Update on Agarkar
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Turns out chief selector Ajit Agarkar didn't even attend the meeting online. Because of some personal commitments, he wasn't available. Earlier reports said that he was going be present online.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: No stir for a while now
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia is still inside. What's going on, nobody knows. He was supposed to be out shortly after VVS Laxman but now it has been almost an hour since. Maybe, Saikia is still busy with other BCCI officials. Making notes and all that. Who knows?!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Saikia should be out anytime
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: The BCCI secretary is still inside and that has got the curiosity going. We don't know what has held him up because everyone else has left. Laxman was the last important person to leave and that was a while back.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Laxman to coach at Asian Games
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: VVS Laxman will be the coach of the Indian team at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. Laxman will be joined by Sunil Joshi, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh. There is a document released by the Sports Ministry that has the list of all coaches going to the Games. Laxman's name is in there.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Saikia still inside
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: The BCCI secretary is still inside. Once he is out, we will bring an end to this blog. But stay on our website, if there is anything noteworthy, we will report it. Don't expect anything out of the ordinary though.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Brief unlikely!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Our sources say there won't be an official press brief. However, reporters present over there might have been able to pick up information on a personal level. In that case, over next two-three hours, we will know who has got what. Stay tuned. We will bring you here everything.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Laxman also leaves!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: VVS Laxman leaves the building too which means all the points have been discussed. Let's hope everything has been done amicably. The last few months haven't exactly been very good for the Indian team. Defeats in Ireland and England continue to haunt Indian fans. Even in Sri Lanka, we got a 1-0 win when it should have been 2-0.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Gambhir, Iyer and Gill leave!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Gautam Gambhir, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill have left the BCCI headquarters after the review session concluded, while Ajit Agarkar joined the discussions virtually. BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Meeting concluded!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: It has been learnt that the BCCI’s high-powered review meeting in Mumbai has concluded. Gautam Gambhir, Ajit Agarkar (virtually)and VVS Laxman were among those involved in the discussions, which focused on India’s recent performances, player fitness and preparations for upcoming assignments, including the 2027 ODI World Cup.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Rohit's recent form!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Rohit Sharma’s recent form has been mixed, although he has shown flashes of brilliance. He struggled early in the England ODI series, scoring 11 and 26 before hitting a resilient 138 at Lord’s. In IPL 2026, he made 283 runs in nine matches at an average of 35.38 and a strike rate of 157.22. Against Afghanistan, he scored 143 runs in three ODIs, averaging 47.66.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Injury crisis in Indian team!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: India’s injury concerns have continued to grow in recent months, with several players picking up setbacks after being cleared from their IPL duties. Nitish Reddy, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar have all suffered injuries since June. Sai Sudharsan and Jasprit Bumrah were picked subject to fitness for the Sri Lanka Tests but missed the series. Washington, who is yet to be cleared, has again been picked, subject to fitness, for the Afghanistan T20Is, along with Bumrah, Rana and Reddy.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: UK tour performances big concern!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: The performances on the UK tour remain a serious concern for the BCCI and are expected to come under close scrutiny during the review meeting. India suffered a 0-4 T20I series defeat to England after losing 0-2 to Ireland, while they also went down 1-2 in the ODI series against England. The poor results, particularly in the white-ball formats, have raised questions over the team’s planning, combinations and consistency ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Clarity on Players' fitness crucial
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: For Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir, clarity over the availability of key players will be crucial as they plan for the challenges ahead. Knowing who will be fit and available will help the selectors and coaching staff decide on combinations, workload management and backup options. With marquee tours and major ICC events coming up, having a clear picture of the squad’s availability will be central to India’s strategic planning and preparations.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Afghanistan T20Is a big opportunity!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: India are set to face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series, with regular skipper Shreyas Iyer leading the side and Tilak Varma named his deputy. The series will give the team another opportunity to assess players and combinations as India continue to work through a transition phase in the T20I set-up.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Gambhir, captains arrive; Agarkar joins virtually!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill arrived at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai for the review meeting, with the discussions getting underway soon after. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar joined the session virtually as the key stakeholders began discussions on India’s recent performances, player fitness and the roadmap ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: COE under scanner over fitness issues
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: The selection committee has raised concerns over players taking longer than expected to recover from injuries and, in some cases, breaking down again after being cleared to play. Nitish Reddy, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar have all suffered injuries in recent months. The setbacks have made the COE more cautious with its return-to-play protocols, with selectors now often picking players with a 'subject to fitness' tag.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Rohit's future also part of discussion!
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Rohit Sharma’s ODI future is also expected to feature in the discussions as India begins planning for the 2027 World Cup. While Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are not under the same pressure, uncertainty continues to surround Rohit. Reports had suggested he was asked about retirement after the Lord’s ODI, but his century in the match appears to have put those plans on hold. However, his place in India’s World Cup squad is still not certain.
BCCI Meeting Live Updates: Board to review recent results in meeting!
BCCI Review Meeting Live Updates: The meeting aims to take stock of the recent past while also looking ahead, focusing on addressing planning gaps and improving coordination among key stakeholders. The T20I team’s recent struggles will be discussed, including the shock 0-2 series loss to Ireland and the subsequent 0-4 whitewash against England. India’s inconsistent ODI results are also expected to come under review, with the team having lost three of its last five series against Australia, New Zealand and England.
