Commentary

1:36 PM IST Over and out - A clean sweep in the T20Is, followed by another in the ODIs, has made for a strong start to Smriti Mandhana’s tenure as India’s captain. She collects the ODI trophy before handing it over to Jintimani Kalita as the Women in Blue pose for photographs. While the results may not have gone their way, Zimbabwe will have gained valuable experience playing against one of the top sides. They will look to take those learnings into the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy, starting next month. As for India, their next assignment is an all-format series in South Africa this December. Until next time, take care and goodbye!
1:26 PM IST The skipper of India - Smriti Mandhana is pleased with India's start to the Women's Championship, highlighting the importance of picking up valuable points towards qualification for the next World Cup. She praises the bowlers for restricting Zimbabwe to under 140 and is particularly happy to see Vaishnavi Sharma finish with a five-wicket haul. Reflecting on India's approach across formats, Mandhana says the aim was to get off to good starts and dominate, something they had discussed as a team. She feels the side managed to do that across all six matches, barring perhaps the first T20I, and is particularly pleased with the pacers' efforts to attack the stumps, a plan they had worked on together. On the batting order, Mandhana explains that Yastika Bhatia had not played an ODI for a long time, while Harleen Deol had also spent considerable time on the bench. With only 132 to chase, the team saw an opportunity to give both players some time in the middle. She adds that had India batted first, they would have stuck with the usual batting order, but is glad both players got some game time.
1:27 PM IST PLAYER OF THE SERIES - With 220 runs in 3 innings, including a century and two half-centuries, Pratika Rawal takes home the award. When asked about her consistency, Rawal says that it comes naturally to her. Adds that she loves to bat for longer durations, and after the Asian Games, she batted for long durations and stayed on the field for many hours. She believes that if you practice with determination, consistency will follow everywhere. Talking about her batting approach, Rawal says she likes to keep things simple and bat naturally to build confidence, while continuing to work on her game awareness, power-hitting and aerial shots. She shares that she has been working closely with her coach on her pull shots, stand-and-deliver hits and crisp punches, and was happy to see those aspects come together in her performance. Looking ahead, Rawal says her focus now shifts to the domestic season, as she heads to Lucknow.
1:16 PM IST PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Vaishnavi Sharma has been given the accolade for her figures of 5/39 in 10 overs, including a maiden. Vaishnavi says she feels really good and is grateful for the opportunity. She was focused on sticking to her process and creating different angles to trouble the batters. Sharma mentions that she has worked on her mindset, reading batters better and adjusting her bowling according to the match situation. She adds that she has worked hard for this moment and that it means a lot to her. She dedicates the achievement to her parents.
1:17 PM IST The captain of Zimbabwe - Josephine Nkomo starts off by saying that there were a lot of positives to take from the series. There were individual batting contributions, the bowlers did well, and the fielding was outstanding. Reflecting on the key takeaways from the tour, Josephine stresses the importance of staying positive, playing with intent and continuing to push themselves to improve. Assessing her team's overall performance, she praises the bowling unit for its consistency and gives special mention to Beloved for her contributions with both bat and ball. Nkomo is also pleased to see different players step up and make valuable contributions at crucial moments throughout the tour.
1:07 PM IST Time for the presentation ceremony...
12:58 PM IST Let's hear from India's head coach - Amol Muzumdar says there were two key things on his mind coming into this series. The first was domination, something they spoke about in the dressing room, and the second was giving young players opportunities to gain valuable exposure at the international level. On long-term preparations, Muzumdar says bilateral series provide an opportunity to test different combinations, whether that means playing three seamers or opting for more spinners, as India build towards major tournaments. He adds that the focus over the next six months will be on balancing the need to win games with finding the right squad combination. Looking ahead to the all-format tour of South Africa in December, Muzumdar says the team will have a preparatory camp to work on specific skills. He stresses the importance of going back to basics and carrying their strong Test cricket form into the upcoming assignments before switching focus to white-ball cricket. Muzumdar also praises Smriti Mandhana's communication and leadership as captain. He adds that they will work closely together to map out India's plans for the coming months.
1:05 PM IST Vaishnavi spins a web - Wickets in the powerplay had been a concern for India in the first two games, but this time they struck three times up front. What followed was a spin stranglehold, and Zimbabwe found it tough to break free. Four of their top five got starts but stalled against the spinners, and many perished trying to take the aerial route. That pretty much summed up their innings. Vaishnavi was the star of the show with a maiden international five-wicket haul, as Zimbabwe folded for 131, their lowest of the ODI leg.
1:05 PM IST A chase on cruise control - With just 132 to chase, India had an opportunity to tinker with their batting order and give Yastika Bhatia and Harleen Deol some time in the middle. They did just that, but neither could make the most of the opportunity. The local girl Bhatia fell for a golden duck, while Deol got a start but couldn't kick on. Pratika Rawal once again provided a steady presence before Shafali Verma finished the chase in a flurry, with both batters bringing up their half-centuries along the way.
1:05 PM IST India flex their muscle - A comprehensive win for the reigning ODI champions as they complete a series whitewash over Zimbabwe. A lovely gesture from Smriti Mandhana to ask Vaishnavi Sharma to lead the side out for the handshakes. It was her five-wicket haul that set up the win for the hosts before the batters then made light work of the chase. A challenging tour for Josephine Nkomo and her side, but one that should leave them better for the experience gained across the six games in India.

Misjudgment by Chiedza Dhururu! Biza pitches it fuller, on off, a bit slower this time. Rawal looks to go over the top on the off side, but she is not to the pitch of the ball and chips it towards cover. Dhururu loses the ball in the lights as she back pedals initially before realising that she needs to come forward to take the catch. She puts in a dive, but the ball does not carry and only settles in her palm after bouncing on the ground.
