David Warner posts PV Sindhu's photo on Instagram after her CWG gold, wife Candice reacts
David Warner posted a photograph of India's PV Sindhu after she won Commonwealth Games gold in badminton women's singles. The Australia opener's wife Candice took note of it and reacted on the Instagram post.
PV Sindhu is not only one of the best (if not the best) Indian shuttlers but also one of the most prominent sportspersons globally. The world number seven earned plaudits from across the globe after winning her maiden individual Commonwealth Games gold in badminton women's singles. Among those mesmerised by Sindhu's skills on the badminton court was Australia opener David Warner. The left-hander took to Instagram to hail the Indian shuttler after her achievements in Birmingham.
"Well done @pvsindhu1 amazing achievement, complete," Warner wrote on Instagram along with a photo of Sindhu wearing the gold medal. Warner's wife Candice took note of the post and reacted. "so good," she wrote.
Sindhu, the two-time Olympic medallist, had won a gold in the mixed team event at the CWG in 2018, but it has been eluding her in singles since her Games debut in 2014.
But on Monday, the world number seven outplayed 13th ranked Michelle Li of Canada 21-15, 21-13 in front of a packed crowd at the NEC arena to fulfil her long-cherished dream.
"I've been waiting for this (gold) for a long time now. Of course, I'm super happy. "I've finally done it. From day one it was important to keep my tempo high and be confident that I can do it," an elated Sindhu said after claiming the top honour.
"We've waited four years now and we're finally here. The Commonwealth Games was really good for me, it was a good tournament."
Contrary to the final scoreline, Sindhu said overcoming Li was not an easy task.
"It was very important to be very focused and in the rhythm. We know each other's game. There are no easy points so even though I was leading I made sure I was very focused."
