India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna becomes fourth KKR player to test positive for Covid-19
Prasidh Krishna is the fourth player from the franchise after Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier and Tim Seifert to test positive for Covid-19.
India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has emerged as the fourth cricketer from Kolkata Knight Riders to test positive for Covid-19. Prasidh, who made his India debut in March and played 31 IPL matches, joins Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier and New Zealand's Tim Seifert to test positive for the virus from the franchise. Prasidh, 25, was picked as one of the four stand-by players for India's tour of the UK, where they play the World Test Championship final and five Tests against England.
"He is down with Covid-19. The results have come in and he tested positive. Prasidh had been picked as a standby player for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final as well as the five-match Test series against England by the BCCI on Friday," sources in the know of things told news agency ANI.
It has been reported that Prasidh was doing fine and that the fast bowler had cleared all tests before breaking out of the bubble in Ahmedabad, where the KKR unit was based out of, for their recent leg of IPL matches before the season was suspended indefinitely. It was after Prasidh flew to Bengaluru that he has tested positive for the virus, with mild symptoms, as per a report in ESPNCricinfo.
Prasidh had made his debut for India during the limited-overs leg against England. He played the three ODIs in Pune and his figures of 4/54 are the best registered by an India bowler on debut. He went past Noel David, who had taken 3 for 21 on his ODI debut 24 years ago in West Indies.
KKR's duo of Chakravarthy and Warrier were the first two positive cases to be reported inside the IPL bio-bubble, leading to the postponement of KKR's match against Royal Challengers Bangalore Monday. The next day, due to Wriddhiman Saha of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Amit Mishra of Delhi testing positive for the virus, the match between SRH and Mumbai Indians was also rescheduled. Later in the day, the BCCI took the decision to call off the remainder of the season due to a rise in the number of positive Covid cases inside the bio-bubble.
Moreover, as things turned out, three positive cases emerged from the Chennai Super Kings camp as well, with bowling coach L Balaji, batting coach Michael Hussey and a bus driver reporting positive results.
