“It was magical,” says R Ashwin. “You couldn’t have asked for more. Jaddu and Saha batted really well. We get our noses ahead. Great spells by Umesh and Bhuvi. Australia batted really well yesterday too, we had to buckle down. This morning was really special. Saha and Jaddu were fantastic.”

The spinner had some extra praise for Jadeja. “It has been a magical season. It is going to be pretty difficult to replicate it. 81 wickets in 13 Tests. I told Jaddu there was a hundred for the taking. He is a very talented batsman, if he puts his head down, he can get that hundred. Hope there is more tight batting from Vijay and Rahul, and that they can get fifties for themselves,” Ashwin said.

4:50pm: This has been a great day of domination by India. They started with a 52-run deficit but Jadeja (63) and Saha (31) helped the hosts take a 32-run lead. On Day 3, Fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood (1-40) and Pat Cummins (1-59) bowled their hearts out during frugal spells to restrict the top-ranked hosts to 248-6 at stumps.

Also, Nathan Lyon made the most of a lively track at Dharamsala, which is hosting its first-ever Test, to return a rich haul of 4-67.

The Indian batsmen, who are without Virat Kohli, were guilty of squandering good starts on the third day and shouldn’t repeat the mistake on the fourth. For India, KL Rahul (60), Cheteshwar Pujara (57) and Ajinkya Rahane (46) begun well but couldn’t get big scores.

The final session on Day 3 saw another grueling contest between the bat and the ball with the hosts scoring 95 runs while losing four wickets.

With three more days of play remaining, the pressure is on India to deliver in the season-ending contest.
