But Pandey couldn’t stop the inevitable from happening as Jasprit Bumrah stamped his class on the cliffhanger with an outstanding super over. Bowling to a batsman who has just played an unbeaten innings to tie the match for his team, Bumrah was on the money with a full delivery outside the off stump, forcing Pandey to make all the effort to connect with the ball. The attempt to steal a double ensured the danger man was back in the hut.

Bumrah greeted Martin Guptill with a full toss, which could be a difficult ball to negotiate first up and the Kiwi managed only a single. Bumrah tried to trap Nabi with a short one off the next delivery but the Afghan all-rounder was lucky as the top edge sailed over the fielder positioned on the fence.

Bumrah would have his revenge on the next ball as he cleaned up Nabi with an accurate yorker.

It was down to the Mumbai batsmen now to chase down the target of 9 runs and Hardik Pandya made amends for a poor last over by hitting Rashid Khan for a six straight down the ground. He took a single off the next ball and Kieron Pollard did the rest by hitting a double off the third delivery of Rashid’s over to take the Blue Brigade home.

The victory is a crucial one for Mumbai Indians as it gives them a chance to finish in the top two slots on the points table as their run rate is better than that of Delhi Capitals. Both teams have one match to go.
