Mohit Avasthi has established himself as a dependable right-arm medium-fast bowler in Mumbai's domestic setup, building his career through the ranks before making his senior breakthrough. He made his List A debut for Mumbai in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, followed by his T20 debut in the 2021-22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and his first-class debut in the same season's Ranji Trophy.
Avasthi gradually became an important part of Mumbai's red-ball attack, particularly with his ability to provide control and pick up wickets consistently. He enjoyed a productive 2023-24 Ranji Trophy campaign, taking 35 wickets, including a season best of 7/52, while also contributing with the bat, including a career-best 53. He followed that with another solid 2024-25 season, claiming 24 wickets across eight matches as Mumbai continued to rely on his experience in the bowling department.
His importance to the Mumbai setup continued into the 2025-26 season. Avasthi was part of the side that secured a nine-wicket victory over Hyderabad in January 2026 and also featured in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy campaign against Karnataka and Delhi. He only played 4 first-class games, but picked up 14 scalps, including a season-best of 5/62. His performances across the domestic circuit have helped him remain a regular part of Mumbai's plans across formats.
Avasthi has also gained experience in the Mumbai T20 League, representing the North Mumbai Panthers in 2026 after previously turning out for Triumph Knights MNE. His domestic consistency was further recognised in August 2026 when the Mumbai Cricket Association included him among its Grade B contracted players for the 2026-27 season, alongside Aakash Anand and Hardik Tamore, and he was subsequently named in the Mumbai squad for the Ranji Trophy 2026/27.
