Kumar Sangakkara has been appointed Sri Lanka captain, selectors confirmed on Wednesday.
Sangakkara, 31, the vice-captain since 2006, was the obvious heir apparent to Mahela Jayawardene, who stepped down after the recent Pakistan tour.
