'The Rockstar is having some game in Warne's memory': England legend hails 'fantastic' Jadeja for Mohali Test heroics

The Mohali Test belonged to one man, and one man only. He scored a record-breaking and unbeaten 175 to help India set a colossal target before picking nine wickets in two innings which set the hosts' emphatic win in the series opener against Sri Lanka on Sunday. And former England captain Michael Vaughan reserved the highest praise for India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his Mohali Test heroics, while recalling Aussie cricket legend Shane Warne, who passed away on Friday.

Warne, who died of suspected heart attack on Friday in Thailand, played a key role in the early days of Jadeja's career, and also gave him the name ‘Rockstar’. Hence, his Mohali Test figures only seemed a fitting tribute to the spin-bowling legend.

"The ‘Rockstar’ as Warney named him is having some game in his memory … Fantastic @imjadeja #INDvSL," tweeted Vaughan.

Jadeja's 175 was the highest ever score by an Indian batter at No.7 in Tests as he surpassed the great Kapil Dev's 1986 feat. And with his five-wicket haul in the first innings, Jadeja became the sixth cricketer and third Indian to score a century and take a fifer in a Test innings. He eventually finished with nine wickets in the game, creating a new Test record of being the only player to score 150-plus runs and pick nine wickets in a game.
