Bangladesh lost the second Test inside two days after scoring 64 and 95 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.
Bangladesh were brought down to earth in the second Test against Australia. The visitors, who got into the game high on confidence after their historic win in the first Test at Darwin, were bowled out for 64 and 95, conceding the contest by an innings and 51 runs. The conditions at the Great Barrier Reef Arena were completely different to those of Darwin, and the extra bounce did for them at Mackay, hosting its first-ever Test match. The match lasted less than two days.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the leader of the Bangladeshi side playing its first Test series in Australia since 2003, was honest in his assessment and admitted the pitch was too hot to handle. “We didn't play our best in this Test match. These were different conditions. A little extra bounce and swing in the air. It was challenging for us. But as a team, if we want to go forward, we need to address these conditions, and I think this experience will help us move forward.

"It was quite difficult for all the batters. Their batting also struggled with Shoriful Islam [who took a seven-for in Australia’s only innings of 210]. It was quite a difficult wicket to bat on, to be very honest. We need to be consistent, and I believe if we get more chances in similar conditions, it will help us. And that's what we want. South Africa next frontier!
The Bangladeshi team now tours South Africa in November for a two-Test series. Having beaten New Zealand in New Zealand in 2022 and Australia earlier this week in the first Test, Shanto now eyes the Proteas tour. “We won a good Test match in Darwin. It is a win to be proud of. We now have two wins of such magnitude. We have defeated New Zealand and Australia in their conditions. I hope we do it in South Africa, which will only help our Test team," Shanto, whose Bangladesh are currently placed fourth in the World Test Championship (WTC), said later, addressing the media.
