A major rejig in Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee is on the cards when party state in-charge Anugrah Narayan Singh visits Dehradun on July 23.
During his first visit after assuming charge of the state, Singh is expected to name new office-bearers of District Congress Committees (DCC) and Block Congress Committees (BCC) with “more responsibilities to youth”.
“Singh would be on his first visit to Dehradun after being appointed in-charge of the state. His visit would also mark the announcements of new presidents of DCCs and BCCs,” said Congress state unit vice-president Suryakant Dhasmana.
“Apart from this, the party is also expecting a few major changes in the PCC to boost the state unit,” Dhasmana said, adding that Singh would hold meetings with state leaders and party members to discuss the strategy for the 2019 general election.
“In the rejig, youth of the party would be given more responsibilities. However, every member of the party would be accommodated to make the organisation more strong,” he said.
The proposed visit comes days after a party delegation from the state met Congress national president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.
The delegation, including Congress state chief Pritam Singh, leader of opposition Indira Hridayesh and former chief minister Harish Rawat, held discussions with Gandhi on strategies to boost the party in Uttarakhand.
When asked about reported factions in the party state unit, Dhasmana said there were no differences within the party.
“In the recent meeting in Delhi, Gandhi had conveyed a stern message to the state unit to resolve all the differences if any as reported in the media. It was clearly stated in the meeting that state president Singh would be heading the state unit and all others have follow him to work for the party together,” said Dhasmana.
“After the visit of state in-charge Singh, the national president would visit the state soon,” he said.
