DEHRADUN: Saurabh Bahuguna, son of former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna and grand son of former UP chief minister HN Bahuguna managed to meet BJP chief Amit Shah and suggested that the Centre provide industrial package to resolve unemployment and migration.
Ritu Khanduri, Yamkeshwar MLA and daughter of former CM and Pauri MP BC Khanduri, and Sanjeev Arya, son of Cabinet minister Yashpal Arya, did not get an opportunity to talk to Shah. But, they are hopeful of sharing the issues of their constituencies with Shah as and when they get time.
The first-time legislator from Sitarganj, Saurabh explained how Uttarakhand could benefit through an industrial package. “I raised three points - industrial package, housing facility and better coordination between the state and the centre for implementation of Asian Development Bank (ADB) projects,” he told Hindustan Times on the sidelines of the meeting.
He informed Shah that as many as 47 companies quit SIDCUL in his area which means over a loss of thousand jobs, adding that similar situation prevails at the adjoining constituency, Kiccha. He told Shah that industries were interested in running business in Uttarakhand because of tax exemption. After this exemption was withdrawn, he said, companies closed establishments to look for opportunities in other states.
Saurabh urged the Centre provide support to Uttarakhand for boosting industries. “There were talks of migration and unemployment as main issues in the state. But, I told him (Shah) that unless we pave way for industries, both the problems won’t be resolved.”
He also stressed on better implementation of ADB projects. “A 22 km road was approved in 2012 with a budget of Rs 64 crore. But, due to some problem, it could not be made. The Centre needs to give faster clearance and finances so that such developmental projects can take off without much ado.”
Shah gave a pat on Saurabh’s back asking him to prepare a summary and submit it to him.
Though the BJP is against dynasty politics, Uttarakhand was an exception as all three ‘star’ kids were given ticket and all of them won. It is believed that along with the Modi wave, dynasty politics also played a key role in their success. “I don’t have a problem in accepting what all I have got is because of my family. But, from here its on me and my performance,” Ritu asserted.
More than 60 suggestions were given to Shah after he met over 200 BJP leaders, including MLAs, MPs and cabinet ministers. BJP insiders said Cabinet minister Satpal Maharaj talked about the clash between his supporters and that of Haridwar mayor Manoj Garg. “We are working for the Swachh Bharat mission but garbage was dumped outside my ashram,” a source quoted Maharaj as saying . Shah told the minister that his argument was noted for further discussion late at night when a meeting of MLAs is scheduled, the source added.
