A video went viral on Wednesday showing staff dancing on old Hindi numbers in core area of Rajaji Tiger Reserve (RTR).
The video was short of a party in the staff quarters located in Chillawali range of the reserve, which is adjoining Uttar Pradesh, said forest officers.
The video shows 4-6 staff of the reserve dancing with women, claimed to be their family members. The group could be seen dancing on Sridevi’s hit song ‘Main Nagin Tu Sapera’.
Sanatan Sonkar, director Rajaji, said, “The staff quarters are inside the reserve. It was a family affair that one shouldn’t twist. The poor staff cannot afford pricey place for their family events and so they had to do it in their residence. No rules are flouted.”
The reserve was shut down for tourists on June 15 for monsoon break. The reserve opens on November 15.
The park records nearly 40,000 tourists during the seven month period generating over R 2 crore revenue.
There are at least 200 permanent staff in the reserve while 200 are daily wagers. The permanent employees are provided accommodation by the reserve management generally in their assigned areas. The reserve was notified on April 2015 with 819.54 sqkm core and 255.63 sqkm buffer areas.
It’s the second tiger reserve of Uttarakhand and since notification has reported extraordinary breeding of tigers.
There are 34 tigers in the reserve as per official estimation of 2017. The reserve is home to several other key species like leopards, elephants, deer and others.
Rajeev Bhartari, chief wildlife warden, however, said, “I will get this checked.”
