48-year-old man run over by DTC bus

A biker was killed and another man was injured in two separate road mishaps in different parts of northeast Delhi on Sunday.
In the first mishap, a 48-year-old biker was killed after he was hit by a speeding Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) low floor at Nand Nagri flyover around 10 am. Enraged over the death, some locals and passersby tried to vandalise the bus before they were stopped by the police.
The biker, identified by his first name Raju, was headed to Durgapuri area from Nand Nagri when the DTC bus hit his motorcycle.
“The impact of the hit was such that Raju fell off the bike and suffered serious injuries to his head. Some locals rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said a police officer associated with the case.
DCP (northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said that a case of rash driving and causing death by negligence was registered and the errant driver Sonu was arrested. The bus and the bike were impounded.
Police said Raju worked in a private company and lived in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
In another accident, 28-year-old Ishwar Singh was injured after a car hit him while he was crossing a road in Shastri Park area. The car driver managed to flee the spot in his vehicle. The road accident took place in the evening. Singh was admitted to a government hospital where his condition is out of danger. Police said the driver was speeding. Police have registered a case.
