Delhi Police arrest man who took gold worth Rs10 cr as ransom from Nepal trader
Apart from his involvement in Suresh Kedia’s abduction, Vikas Singh had later eliminated his close aide Babloo Dubey, who was then lodged in Buxar jail, over sharing of ransom money.
The Delhi Police’s crime branch on Saturday arrested Vikas Singh, a gangster from Bihar wanted for the abduction of Nepalese businessman Suresh Kedia from Birgunj in Nepal in 2016.
Police said Kedia had then given gold worth ₹10 crore to one of Singh’s contacts in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk as ransom for his release.
Kedia was abducted on May 25, 2016 and was found by Bihar Police, four days later, on May 28 from Motihari in Bihar. Kedia allegedly paid the ransom gold three days after his release, fearing he would be targeted again.
Apart from his involvement in Kedia’s abduction, Singh had later eliminated his close aide Babloo Dubey, who was then lodged in Buxar jail, over sharing of ransom money.
Police found Singh had been hiding in Delhi for the past few months with one Ashu Pahalwan and was running a tour and travel company here.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime), Ram Gopal Naik said, a specific input was received on Saturday that Singh–a wanted gangster from Bihar wanted for the Nepalese businessman’s abduction and the Babloo Dubey murder case–is hiding in Delhi.
“We had input that Singh would come to meet someone outside Sangam Cinema in south Delhi’s RK Puram around 10 pm. Singh was arrested soon as he arrived. We contacted Bihar Police, which confirmed Singh’s involvement in the two high-profile cases,” Naik said.
During interrogation, Singh told police he had killed Dubey following a dispute over sharing of ransom money they got for Kedia’s release.
Dubey was killed when he was being produced in the Bettiah court in May 2017, additional commissioner of police (crime) Rajeev Ranjan said.
“Gangsters Kunal Singh and Rahul Singh, both from Bihar, were also involved in Kedia’s abduction and Dubey’s murder. Singh told police he was also involved in three other murder cases, one extortion case and an attempt to murder case in Bihar. He said Dubey hatched the conspiracy to kidnap Kedia in Buxar jail,” Ranjan said. Both Kunal Singh and Rahul Singh had been arrested at the time.
With Singh’s arrest, Delhi Police also foiled a conspiracy to murder a Ghaziabad businessman. “One of Singh associates, who belonged to Delhi’s Ghazipur, approached him in July 2018 and offered him a contract of R 15 lakh to get a Ghaziabad businessman killed. The man had also handed over to Singh two Chinese pistols for the task. Efforts to apprehend the inmate and recover the weapons are underway,” the officer said.
