The arrests came following an order by district magistrate Nidhi Kesarwani. The accused — Mukesh Prajapati, Vijay Sharma, Shivdutt Singh and Shiv Kumar — had burnt an effigy of UP CM Akhilesh Yadav on August 3 to protest against the recent gang rape at Bulandshahr.

Senior AAP leaders visited the accused in jail on Sunday and threatened to launch a strike if they were not released.
