Domestic help found hanging at employer’s Vasant Kunj home

The woman was found hanging from an iron rod in the bathroom. She used her stole to hang herself. No suicide note was recovered from her possession, police said.

A senior police officer said at 4 pm, the employer called the police control room and told them that the maid, Anshuman Dolma alias Bobby, locked herself in the bathroom and was not responding.

Her employer, Rahul Joshi, a businessman, and his wife were at home when she took the step, police said.

Bobby has been working in Joshi’s bungalow in Vasant Kunj’s D-block since June 29. Earlier, she worked at the house of Joshi’s father-in-law in Hoshiarpur in Punjab, since 2005.

Sources said Joshi’s fatherin-law is a retired brigadier in the Indian Army.

Bobby was only 13 years when she was employed by the retired brigadier. Police are now trying to find out if she was a victim of any organised human trafficking syndicate and was forced to work as a domestic help.

An inquest proceeding into her suicide has already been initiated by the police.

Police are recording the statements of Joshi and his family members to find if they had done Bobby’s police verification before employing her at their Delhi home.

“We are probing what triggered Bobby to take the step. We are looking into the matter from all angles,” said the officer.

The police have informed her family members about the incident. “We will speak to Bobby’s family to know if she was under stress over any matter. Further action will follow accordingly,” added the officer.
