NEW DELHI: A 70-year-old father was arrested on Monday, for murdering his son at their home in east Delhi’s Mandawali. The accused, Ganesh Prasad Shukla, has been on the run ever since.

The father, who is a retired government employee, pumped a bullet into the chest of his 38-year-old son Mahender, with his licensed single barrel gun following an altercation, on Friday.
Police arrested Ganesh from near Sanjay Jheel, Pandav Nagar. During the interrogation, he revealed that there were frequent quarrels in the family over the distribution of property between his son and daughter. He wanted to gift half of his ancestral property to his daughter, which his son and daughter-in-law opposed.
On the day of the incident, his daughter-in-law quarrelled with the accused over the same issue and in anger, the accused hit her with a stick. When Mahender returned home, he confronted his father, who in turn went to his room and brought out his gun. Before Mahender could say anything, his father aimed the gun at him and fired.
A senior police officer said Mahender was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on admission.
“The bullet hit Mahender on the left of his chest and he collapsed. Mahender’s wife raised an alarm and rushed out for help. By the time neighbours reached home, Ganesh fled the crime scene,” the officer said.
Following his arrest, police recovered the gun used in the crime, along with the empty cartridge.
