The boy in his complaint to the welfare committee said that six months back, he had gone to his friend’s house and did not return the same day. This made his mother angry and she did not allow him to enter house. He had to take shelter in the neighbourhood park, while his friends were helping him with food.

The boy’s mother works with a Central government department and lives in a government flat in Lodhi Road. An official said the boy’s biological father and his mother are divorced. When he was an infant, she remarried and has two daughters from the boy’s stepfather.

The teenager was rescued by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after he called the child helpline a week back. He told police that he was begging for food and based on his complaint, a case of child rights’ violation was registered against his parents.

The CWC officials have sent the boy to Bal Kalyan Samiti in Lajpat Nagar.
