"The incident came to light around 3 pm from Jaitpur's Kalindi Kunj Road area. The deceased duo has been identified as Pintu (20) and Shailesh (21), both residents of Sangam Vihar. They had gone to immerse idols of Goddess Durga with a few of their neighbours," said a senior Delhi Police officer.

According to police, the five persons were immersing the idols of Goddess Durga when they accidentally fell into the water and got washed away with the current.

"Seeing what had happened, onlookers raised an alarm responding to which a local diver named Bhola jumped into the river and managed to rescue three of them," said the officer. Police said Bhola managed to save Rahul (16), Arjun (16) and Ram Lakhan (42).

Meanwhile, a PCR call was made and a rescue team of fire department reached the spot. The team tried to find the two men but didn't succeed.
