Police said along with son Akshay (18) and brother-in-law manish Gupta (28), Jain planned to rob a showroom employee.

Jain and Gupta snatched Rs 5.6 lakh from a mall employee in Rajouri Garden in West Delhi three days ago. Police said their weapon of choice were two toy pistols, which they used to threaten their victim.

Akshay, who was working as a salesman with Puma showroom at Rajouri Garden for the past two months, had reportedly discussed with his father that the shop’s daily collection was deposited in a nearby bank every Monday, police said.

On Monday around 11.45 am, Jain and Gupta trailed Anupam Thapa, the sales executive of Puma showroom, on their motorcycle.

“Thapa was intercepted by the duo near Paragon Mall in Rajouri Garden. They whipped the two toy pistols and asked him to hand over the cash bag to them. After snatching the bag, they fled from the scene,” said Sharad Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).

Police said Thapa had managed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle even though they accused had rubbed mud on it to avoid detection.

“Jain initially said the motorcycle was stolen on the day of the incident and feigned ignorance about the crime. However, when we grilled him intensely he confessed to the crime,” said the officer.

Police said they recovered Rs 4.2 lakh from him and the two toy pistols used in the crime.
