The cases of dengue generally start showing a downward trend with the advent of winter as low temperature and less humidity are not conducive for the breeding of dengue-carrier aedes aegypti mosquitoes. However, this season, a substantial number of dengue cases per day have being reported till now.

This year's total is more than double of that reported in 2006, when the number of cases was 2,537, the previous high in the past five years. Eight persons have lost their lives to dengue this season.

Shahdara North Zone has reported the highest number of dengue cases (797) followed by Rohini (746) and Civil Lines (646).

Delhi has also reported 43 chikungunya cases this season, with two fresh cases being recorded on Wednesday.
