6 Indians in Man Asian Literary Prize longlist

The other Indians on the list are Manu Joseph, Sarita Mandanna and Usha K R. The list of books is: Three Sisters
(Bi Feiyu, China), Way to Go (Chatterjee), Dahanu Road (Irani), Serious Men (Joseph), The Thing About Thugs (Khair), Tiger Hills (Mandanna), The Changeling (Kenzaburo Oe, Japan), Hotel Iris (Yoko Ogawa, Japan), "Monkey-man (Usha K R) and Below the Crying Mountain (Criselda Yabes, The Philippines).

The longlist of 10 was selected from a total of 54 submitted books by publishers from 14 Asian countries. The judges will announce a shortlist in February. The winner of the prize, which carries an award of USD 30,000, will be announced on March 17 in Hong Kong.

"The judges have encountered the best of new fiction from across the region, from India to China, from the Philippines to Japan, and the long list reflects this diversity. As a reader I have been entertained, moved, and also informed - new worlds have opened up. Most of all, I have enjoyed the elan, the verve and the elegance of my favourite novels. I'm looking forward to arguing for their place on the short list," says Monica Ali, chairman of the jury.
