Afghan had planned fianceé’s murder
Omid Milad Hussain Khill (26), the Afghan man arrested for his fiancee’s murder, had planned to kill her.
Three days before the murder, he told the police, he had gone to a local market to purchase the kitchen knife. Paimana Khanjar (22), a US national of Afghan origin, had multiple stab wounds on her body.
"The purpose of their visit to India was to discuss their marriage. They had met in Afghanistan and in US as well and had recently decided to come to India. Khanjar was living at her aunt's house in Jangpura," a senior police officer said.
A friend of the victim, who didn't wish to be named, said, "She often talked about her disinterest in marrying Hussain. It was an arranged engagement since both are Afghan nationals."
Police arrested Hussain from the Delhi airport while trying to fly to Kabul on a Sunday morning flight.
While Khanjar had come to Delhi on February 25, her fiancé had come a day later.
The couple had got engaged in Afghanistan three years ago but she was not interested in marrying Hussain anymore.
"On Saturday night she went to meet Hussain at the guesthouse. We received a call around 11:45pm about a girl lying in a pool of blood at Shamsher guest house. We immediately informed the airport authorities after collecting details from the girl's family," Ajay Chaudhry, additional CP (southeast) said.
