Afghan national arrested at IGI with gold worth Rs 40 lakh

An Afghan national has been arrested by customs officials for allegedly smuggling into the country gold valued at about Rs 40 lakh at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi.

An Afghan national has been arrested by customs officials for allegedly smuggling into the country gold valued at about Rs 40 lakh at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi.

41-year-old Ahmad Fardin, a resident of Shahre-Mazar Sharif, had arrived from Kabul on Friday.

Customs officials intercepted him after he was moving towards the exit gate.

"On detailed examination of his bag, gold bangles and while coloured gold chains were recovered having total weight of 1.671 kg. The value of the recovered jewellery is Rs 40.66 lakh," a press release issued today by the customs said.

The goods were seized and Fardin was arrested.
