“Since the driver of the car was a minor, the onus is on the car’s owner, who allowed him to drive. We have identified the owner and served her a notice under section five of the motor vehicle act,” said a senior police officer.

As per the act, the owner will have to pay a fine. “The Honda Civic, driven by the teenager, is owned by the mother of the deceased’s friend, who was following him in another car when the accident happened,” the police said.

They added that the boy’s parents were not aware of his presence in Delhi as he used to live in Sonepat. “The car owner is a resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad. We are waiting for the deceased’s medical report to confirm whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol or not,” the police officer added.

A first year law student at a Sonepat-based university, the deceased was a hosteller and had come to Delhi for a party at a South Delhi pub.
