Along with Dikshit, her six Cabinet colleagues also took oath of office on Wednesday. As reported by Hindustan Times on Monday, Dikshit has retained almost all her outgoing Cabinet colleagues. While Finance Minister AK Walia, Urban Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, Industry Minister Mangat Ram Singhal, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely and Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf remain, Health Minister Yoganand Shastri has been replaced by Malviya Nagar MLA Kiran Walia.

The CM is likely to announce the portfolios of her Cabinet colleagues by Thursday. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by a number of MPs, newly elected MLAs, former Union ministers, senior bureaucrats and party supporters.

Soon after the ceremony, the government got back to business. Dikshit called the first Cabinet meeting in the afternoon to discuss, among other things, her government’s priorities for the coming days.

The toughest challenge for the government would be to ensure successful preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In fact, the issue also came up in the first Cabinet meeting.

“The chief minister said the government’s topmost priority is to ensure preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She has directed that all games-related infrastructure should be completed at the earliest,” said a senior Delhi government official on condition of anonymity.

Corporatisation of public transport service, augmenting Delhi’s power generation capacity and revving up the city’s infrastructure are some of the other priorities that the Diksit government has set itself.
