"President rule has proven useless in the state. The governor is acting as an agent of the central government... Elections should be held immediately after dissolving the state assembly so that people can elect a government of their choice," former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Arjun Munda said in New Delhi.

The party activists staged a demonstration in the national capital and demanded a judicial inquiry into the police lathicharge on BJP leaders during an agitation before the state assembly in Ranchi a few days back.

"A judicial inquiry should be carried out on lathicharge of our leaders during the party's 'Ghera Dalo Dera Dalo' programme held before the state assembly," he added.

The Jharkhand assembly is under suspended animation since President's rule was imposed on January 19 in the state after then Chief Minister Shibu Sorend resigned from his post following his defeat in the Tamar by-election.
