Blast accused wants to contest poll

A suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist, facing trial with 12 others for their alleged role in the September 2008 serial blast in Delhi, moved a Delhi court, seeking permission to contest the MCD polls.

A suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist, facing trial with 12 others for their alleged role in the September 2008 serial blast in Delhi, moved a Delhi court, seeking permission to contest the MCD polls.

In a plea to Additional Sessions Judge Narinder Kumar, accused Zia-ur-Rehman, presently lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad, sought permission to file his nomination from ward number 205 (Zakir Nagar). His application said that Rehman’s candidature does not suffer from “any disqualification as provided under section 9 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act".

The court has listed the plea for hearing tomorrow.
