Blueline buses continue killer run
A man died and another was critically injured after a speeding Blueline bus hit the motorcycle they were travelling on in southwest Delhi late on Wednesday, police said.
Suraj (19), accident victim number 15 this year, was riding pillion with his cousin brother Madan (25). He became airborne before coming under the wheels of the Blueline, said an officer. Suraj was the sole bread earner and supported his father and two unmarried sisters. He lived in Inderpuri.
Madan sustained multiple fractures and was in a serious condition till late Thursday evening. He got married recently and has a three-month-old daughter.
The bus driver Anand Prakash fled after the accident and was arrested later. A case of causing death due to negligence was registered, said Shalini Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest).
The brothers were on their way home from a birthday party when the incident took place around 10.30 pm near Moti Bagh gurudwara, the police said. Suraj's father Manohar Singh said the two boys were returning from a birthday party of Madan's niece in Madangir.
A Blueline, plying on route 724, allegedly hit the duo’s motorcycle from behind. Suraj was reportedly thrown into the air due to the impact and fell a few metres away.
“The bus driver did not stop and ran over Suraj's face. Madan too was crushed. The driver fled from the spot but was arrested on Thursday,” said an officer. The victims were lying unattended on the road for about half-an-hour, after which the police took them to the Safdarjung hospital.
Silence engulfed Suraj's home in Block D, Inderpuri. His father said that Suraj used to work in an export firm. “He wanted to marry off his two sisters. He was the only bread earner. What will we do now,” said Manohar Singh.
