Blatant violation of rules by the notorious Blueline buses almost killed a 15-year-old boy on Wednesday morning. The teenager sustained serious head injuries in a tussle between two buses trying to block each other’s way in south Delhi's Sarita Vihar. That was traffic rule violation number one.
Violation number two: One of the buses was plying on two routes at the same time. That went against the transport department’s traffic permit rules.
This, just three days after the Delhi government completed testing the Bluelines for roadworthiness.
Here’s how the tragedy unfolded. Madanpur Khadar resident Rohit Kumar was going to Kotla DAV School in Nizamuddin along with his cousin Puneet at about 7.45 am The two had boarded the bus from Madanpur Khadar stand and decided to get off at the next stop since the vehicle was overcrowded. Puneet told HT: “Rohit had just got off when another Blueline, plying Route No. 34, approached from behind. Our driver suddenly swerved to obstruct the other bus and Rohit came between them.”
