Braveheart: Windfall for rickshaw-puller

Zakat Foundation, one of the country's largest Muslim charities, on Wednesday gave Salim R50,000 for "demonstrating bravery". Delhi Police have also announced a reward of R25,000. Most rickshaw-pullers hire their cycles on a daily basis from rickshaw-owning cartels.

Salim is elated at an unexpected chance to join this 'elite club'. "I think I will buy a rickshaw of my own," he said. The foundation will also bear expenses toward treating his wife, a tuberculosis patient, and will also adopt his two children and send them its school.
